My name is Pablo Tejedor-Gutiérrez, and I was born in Madrid. Based in London, I work as a musician, playing the historical cello (in all its forms) and the bass viol, performing numerous concerts throughout the year in the UK and abroad. As a historian, I have published articles on Cultural History, Historical Performance, and Musicology, and I have given seminars, talks, and lectures. I also teach in these fields at different European institutions. I welcome you to my website and invite you to explore the diverse sections to learn more about my project

As a historical cellist and viola da gamba (or viol) player, I typically perform music from before 1900, striving to offer an informed performance. Through research, my colleagues and I can recreate the sound of the past as faithfully and thoughtfully as possible, while still delivering dynamic and original concerts, full of improvisation and novelty.

I am always enthusiastic about experimenting with music and maintaining an open-minded approach to performance—flexible and imaginative. Additionally, as a practical researcher, I am constantly seeking new ways to approach historical cello technique. I have researched and published pioneering work on chordal approaches and improvisation on bass lines based on historical sources, creating unique continuo lines.

Throughout my career, I have primarily performed in chamber music or orchestral ensembles, though I also periodically give solo recitals. These three roles offer me excellent opportunities to showcase the cello’s and gamba’s vast array of expressions, both as a bass accompanist and as a beautiful solo voice.

The music played on these captivating instruments—crafted solely from wood with four to seven gut strings—is always capable of awakening deep emotions in both the listener and the players.

Another exciting aspect of the Historically Informed Performance movement is its potential to expand the currently limited canon of composers. In my concerts, you will regularly hear pieces by forgotten yet extraordinary artists whose voices have remained silent for centuries.

I hope you enjoy visiting this website, and I look forward to meeting you at one of my concerts or for a music lesson soon!
